HP touchpad goodness

I managed to get a HP touchpad from Best Buy for $99 bucks last week. After a week of using it, I love the hardware but I find myself missing my android apps like: gmail , dropbox , google maps etc .

WebOS is pretty nice but needs some polish (mainly with lag in the email and IM apps) and needing a lot more apps. I hope that the CM7 and touchdroid folks can get android ported soon so I can get back to my android goodness !

Restaurants progress at work

I’ve been having some really stupid problems with a project at work for the past few days that have kept me from making significant progress. But today I was able to get in there and knock out 3 or 4 different sections of it: search, browsing by cuisine and listing of recent inspections..

Gonna work on redoing my merging tool and then work on round 2 of my import tool and add some more fields for it to import etc. Hoping to have a launchable product in 2 weeks or less. I miss working with a group of developers … no collaboration = sucky.

Lazy Puppy

So I’ve been home from work the past 2 days cause I’ve been sick and noticed Lucy decided to take a nap. Thought it was funny so I took a picture.

Clearing out the cobwebs

I haven’t used this site in over a year and I figured it was time to brush the dust off so to speak. I had an idea for a web-app to help manage twitter lists. VERY few tools exist to effectively manage twitter lists ( tweetdeck was the only one i found that worked )

I think i’ll sit down and write it using django sometime in the next week or two.

Code Monkey

Well I got hired on by the Springfield News-Leader to be the Online Developer about 3 weeks ago. So far I love it here. I launched a project last week to pull the Springfield Municipal Warrants from their website and put them into a search-able database. I’m using my current project as an excuse to learn jQuery/AJAX: I am writing a new polling system for the the website to run Online Polls. The things you can do with jquery are amazing but I find myself hating javascript all the same. lol

Project Macbook

I bought a macbook a couple of months ago from a guy on craigslist that was broken. He claimed that it was just some “water or snow” on the power button that caused it not to power up. Michael and i took it apart to check it out and noticed that there was a lot of what looked like dried soda on the bottom of the top case. At the time we decided I should probably just relist it on craigslist or ebay and try to get my money back from it.

Well a week or so, Michael had ordered a part for his mac book and had to take it apart to install a new fan for his. Well we decided to try his top case on mine and it booted up! I was like “WOOHOO!!!” Off to EBay I went, bought a new top case for it and a new hard drive. And got the machine up and running. Found out the bluetooth doesn’t work so I have a new bluetooth module on the way. Also ordered a new magsafe power adaptor from macsales.com and got the existing power adaptor replaced by database systems. I think i might have to get a different top case cause my mouse will randomly stick… There are quite a few on ebay so I should be able to find one easily.

A NEW CAR!

Got a new, to me, car last weekend at an auction by the City of Bolivar. A 2000 Chevy Impala with 93,000 miles.

I can haz picnic

Clayton had built a picnic table a couple of months ago, and I thought it was pretty awesome so I wanted to build one as well. I tried to do it on my own and was a little confused, so I asked my father to supervise me while I was building it. Here’s a picture of the table pre-stain.

Picnic table

I used this page for the plans for the table. I think the next thing I want to build is a custom ergonomic desk with fancy keyboard tray and monitor stands etc.

Sunday Morning

Woke up this morning and noticed it was raining outside, so it appears that I won’t be mowing the yard today. I’m listening to “The Tech Guy” podcast by Leo Laporte while I’m waiting to head to Church.
